MEDIA RELEASE

21 JANUARY 2022

RMB’s Aluwani Thenga named to BAFT’s Future Leaders Programme Class of 2022

BAFT, the leading global financial services association for international transactional banking, announced today its Future Leaders Programme Class of 2022. Aluwani Thenga, Head of Business Development Strategy, Corporate Transactional Banking of RMB was one of 35 individuals selected to participate. The programme – now in its seventh year – recognises upcoming leaders in the transactional banking industry.

Nominated by their respective institutions, the Class of 2022 includes individuals from 22 countries and a variety of disciplines within transaction banking. This year’s group will be divided into five project teams to address current industry issues including commercialising data, CBDCs, sustainability, digitising trade finance, and ISO 20022.

Thenga will collaborate with fellow Future Leaders on Commercialising Data in Global Transactional Banking. They will work to gather insights into how banks can optimise the data they harvest from transactional banking client activity to create a better understanding of their customers, to ultimately improve and commercialise their product and service offering.

“It’s an honour to have been handpicked by my organisation to join BAFT’s Future Leaders Programme, said Thenga. “It’s a prestigious and highly-esteemed group within the transactional banking industry and I’m eager to collaborate with my programme colleagues on critical industry issues.”

The Class of 2022 will start their programme virtually in January and will conclude at BAFT’s Global Annual Meeting in May. Several future leader council members will support the current class as mentors, joining BAFT board members who will continue to serve as project sponsors.
